The house she had built in Pacific Palisades with Adam Brody was destroyed in the January 2025 wildfire. She did not comment publicly. There is no reason she would need to.

The daughter, Arlo, born in 2015, is nine years old at the time of this writing. The son, born in 2020, is four. They have two parents who have been doing this work for a combined total of roughly sixty years, who understood before their children were born what the entertainment industry was and was not, and who have made consistent choices throughout their marriage about what to keep private from the public that watches them.

These choices are available to be noted. The reasons for them are not the public’s to know.

## Closing: The Distance Between Fort Worth and Blair Waldorf

On September 19, 2007, Gossip Girl premiered on the CW, and Leighton Meester walked into millions of living rooms as Blair Waldorf — headband perfect, expression controlled, social position immaculate. The character she was playing had everything that had been absent from the biography she was playing it against: the money, the Manhattan address, the private school, the mother who was present and socially prominent rather than absent and incarcerated.

The distance between that fictional life and the actual one was enormous. The distance was also, in a specific way, irrelevant to the quality of the performance. She did not play Blair Waldorf well because she had grown up without Blair Waldorf’s privileges; she played Blair Waldorf well because she was a skilled actress with two decades of professional experience and a specific emotional intelligence about the gap between what a character presents and what a character is. Those are the tools she brought to the role. Where they came from is her own business.
