He did not deliver this as a prepared speech. He arrived at it over multiple conversations, and some of the pieces came from Dr. Watts’s sessions and some from things I said directly and some from whatever processing he did on his own time. The important thing is that he arrived at it.
I am not a person who needs elaborate displays. I do not need flowers or grand gestures or public statements. I need accurate language about what happened and demonstrated behavior that shows it is not still happening. Daniel has provided the accurate language. The demonstrated behavior is ongoing and I am watching it.
That is what I have and what I am working with. It is enough for now.
## The Spreadsheet We Looked at Again
I want to tell you about a small thing that happened in September, two weeks after the session with Dr. Watts where Daniel described his father’s marriage.
He came home one evening and said he had been thinking about what we had talked about in the session, and whether there were practical things we could change about how we talked about our finances and our work as a household. He said he thought we should revisit the way we talked about money, specifically.
We sat down with a spreadsheet. It was not the same spreadsheet from the Sunday when I was planning the consultancy, but it was the same kitchen table. We laid out the income from both sides — his salary, my billing over the previous twelve months — and we looked at the actual household budget and how it was actually working.
