Cage has spoken about his financial situation in broad terms in subsequent interviews. In a 2022 GQ interview, he stated that he had settled his debts. His career underwent a significant critical reassessment in the same period, particularly after his performance in the film *Pig* (2021) was widely praised as one of the best of his career. The trajectory from the financial difficulties of the early 2010s to the critical rehabilitation of the early 2020s was one of the more interesting career recoveries in Hollywood of that period.
Through it all, his connection to comics—the medium that gave him his professional name, that provided the character whose Kryptonian birth name he gave to his son, that had drawn him to acquire one of the most valuable documents in the history of the form—remained part of his public identity. He appeared in comic-book-derived films throughout the period: *Kick-Ass* (2010), *Ghost Rider* and its sequel, *Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse* (2018), in which he voiced an alternate-universe version of Spider-Man who was modeled on the visual style of a black-and-white noir film. The Spider-Verse role, in particular, was well-received and felt consistent with his genuine enthusiasm for the source material.
The Detective Comics No. 27—the Batman first appearance that was also stolen in 2000 and has not been publicly recovered—remains the unresolved thread. If that copy exists somewhere, its current market value would be extraordinary. A high-grade copy of Detective Comics No. 27 is, in the estimation of most collectors and dealers, the second most valuable comic book after Action Comics No. 1, and its own price trajectory in recent years has followed a path parallel to the Superman issue.
