Percy Blackborow, the stowaway who had been found in the hold and threatened with being eaten and who had lost his toes on Elephant Island, went home to Cardiff. His employer, when he arrived back, reportedly gave him a job for life.
Luis Pardo, the Chilean naval pilot who brought the Yelcho through the fog to Elephant Island, was promoted to Pilot First Class and received medals from the Chilean government, the British government, and other countries. He was credited with ten years of additional service for the rescue mission. He died in 1935 at age 52. His memory has been honored in Chile ever since: a Chilean navy ship is named in his honor, and there is a monument to him on Elephant Island at the site of the rescue.

## The Wreck Found at 3,008 Meters
For more than a century, the Endurance lay on the floor of the Weddell Sea at a position only approximately known. Captain Worsley had recorded the ship’s location when she sank, but the precision of that recording, made from a moving ice floe in difficult conditions, was limited. The Weddell Sea is one of the most inaccessible bodies of water on earth, its surface covered for most of the year by thick, moving pack ice that makes any kind of sustained search by surface vessel nearly impossible.
In March 2022, the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust announced that the Endurance had been found.
The Endurance22 expedition, mounted on the South African polar research vessel S.A. Agulhas II under Master Captain Knowledge Bengu, had used Saab Sabertooth hybrid underwater search vehicles — autonomous submarines capable of operating at extreme depths. The wreck was found approximately four miles south of the position Worsley had recorded when she sank, at a depth of 3,008 meters. The discovery was announced on March 9, 2022.
