Bach proposed twice. She accepted the second proposal. They married in July 2013, in a civil ceremony at their home in Küsnacht, on Lake Zurich in Switzerland. Some Swiss press reported a Buddhist ceremony as well.

She had moved to Switzerland in the years preceding the marriage, and she gave up her US citizenship in 2013, becoming a Swiss citizen. This was a definitive statement about where her life was: she was making Switzerland home, not as a tax arrangement or a temporary residence, but as a permanent commitment to the country and the life she was living there.

In 2016 she received a diagnosis of intestinal cancer. The cancer delayed a kidney transplant she needed as a consequence of high blood pressure. In 2017, Erwin Bach donated one of his kidneys to her. The donation was a privately executed medical procedure that became public knowledge through her own disclosure. She described it in interviews as an act that transformed her understanding of love — a literal, physical, life-sustaining act from the person she had been with for three decades.

She died on May 24, 2023, at her home in Küsnacht, aged 83. The cause of death was not specified in the terms available in the public record at the time this article is written; she had faced multiple health challenges in her final years including the kidney transplant, the intestinal cancer, and a stroke.
